The ‘Bottega di Enza Fasano’ is at the cutting edge of the ceramic art in Grottaglie. Enza, daughter of the famous ceramist Nicola Fasano, was born and raised amongst ceramics and has been nurtured by this art all her life, with the result that she has developed a refined taste and a personal style.
Her clientele is cosmopolitan, cultured and demanding. Her pieces decorate numerous charming farmhouses and luxury resorts in the most picturesque corners of Puglia and are on sale at various craft shops in Italy, as well as in Canada, the United States, France, Austria and Switzerland.
From the outset it has been Enza Fasano’s desire to turn traditional objects, once of everyday household use, into works of design, in order to give rise to a new way of conceiving the decoration of the home. This is why, in collaboration with her husband Salvatore Santoro and their daughter Giovanna, she creates works that while following tradition are continually seeking new forms and chromatic effects.
The craftswoman’s workshop/showroom in Grottaglie (Taranto) greets customers and visitors with a delightful swirl of light, form and colour, made up of hundreds of objects of great beauty, such as the ‘slims’, elongated versions of traditional vessels used to pour wine, water and the oil: the vummile, trufolo and oliera; the gallo pazzo, an ornamental plate decorated with the traditional local image of a cock; the wall plates, bearing the typical patterns of floors in Southern Italy, and the chamber pot (cantro), transformed fancifully into a centrepiece. And then the pupe, with or without a moustache, and in the version ‘on horseback’ are also used as candlesticks or bases for lamps; the capase, in the form of ancient amphorae, are inventively utilized as coffee cups; the carciofi or artichokes, presented as a variant of the pumo, a regional symbol of good luck and prosperity.
In her workshop, Enza Fasano infuses her passion for clay and for the traditions of her land into objects and sculptures of elegant, clearly recognizable lines, a testimony to her taste and her decades of experience, creating exclusive objects for the table, for the home and for outdoor use.
