Alberto Bertoni

Alberto Bertoni was born in Varese in the August of 1954. Even as a child he was fascinated by the activity of his father Riccardo, who ran a craft workshop for the manufacture of trunks and other travel goods: an interest that led him to help out in the workshop from a very early age, learning the trade as he went.

In the meantime he continued his studies at the Galileo Ferraris scientific secondary school in Varese, and then at Milan University, where he took a degree in mathematical sciences, before choosing to pursue a career as a craftsman. The work carried out by father and son was immediately recognized for the refinement and high quality of the hides used, as well as the accuracy with which the craftsmen made their products. A variety of travel goods were made in the workshop, including classical suitcases and portmanteaus, trunks and American cases. In 1983 the running of the family workshop passed into Alberto’s hands: from a small cottage industry the enterprise turned into a true artisan company, well-known and highly appreciated in part through its collaboration with major fashion houses like Prada and Fendi.

The range of products was expanded to meet the needs of an increasingly refined and demanding clientele, making use of different types of leather and other materials, while the design of the collections was renewed, with the introduction of pieces in a bolder and more contemporary style, without ever forgetting the elegance and accuracy with which the articles are handcrafted, a distinctive feature of the company. Today Alberto continues with his children along the road indicated by his father Riccardo, enriching Bertoni’s heritage with new ideas and energies and guiding the company with far-sightedness, passion and determination, always in the name of a continual quest for excellence.
