Daniela Iride Murgia

Daniela Iride Murgia, writer and illustrator, was born in Oristano, Sardinia, in 1969. She graduated in oriental art in Venice and achieved a masters degree in Illustration at Padua's University.

She lives between Venice and Denmark, collaborating with prestigious international magazines and publishing houses. She was awarded numerous prizes, such as the prestigious “A la Orilla del Viento” (Mexico),  the National Chamber of the Mexican Editorial Industry's “Premio Caniem”, “Premio Rodari”, the Award of Excellence Communication Arts/USA, Cento's “Premio Letteratura Ragazzi” and The White Ravens 2018. In 2021 she won the Andersen Prize for best illustrator of the year: “For the rigorous and enthusiastic journey of personal growth and development which led her to become one of the most interesting personalities in the field of today's Italian illustration. For her sophisticated and uncommonly original style. For her consistent creativity, able to combine poetry and wonder, irony and surreal twists”. She creates her illustrations employing almost exclusively manual techniques.

Her pieces consist of ink drawings which are then assembled with the use of techniques such as collage, watercolours, stitching and paper cutting. She is one of the co-founders of M+B studio, which specializes in designing and curating exhibitions for Venice's Biennale and other contemporary art venues, collaborating with internationally acclaimed artists and architects. She teaches illustration at the International School of Comics in Padua, Sarmede and other locations. With Cathusia Edizioni, together with Cologni Foundation and Bonacina 1889, she recently published “Vite e sogni intrecciati” (Lives and dreams intertwined) both as a writer and illustrator, within the series Storietalentuose, dedicated to artistic crafts told to younger generations.
