Sandro Pieri

Alessandro Pieri, alias Sandro, born in Cesena in 1970, grew up curiously observing his grandfather, artist and artisan, but it was only in the San Patrignano rehab community that he discovered his true calling for craftsmanship, later choosing to stay and help the community’s young guests find themselves and their passions.

Handicrafts and artistic decorations in particular are his main recovery tools, through which he engages with the young residents and helps them challenge themselves and discover their own potential. Since 1996 he works as an educator in San Patrignano directing San Patrignano Design Lab, an atelier specializing in refined wallpapers designed by internationally known architects and designers such as Renzo Mongiardino, Peter Marino,  Paolo Moschino, Michele De Lucchi, Philip Vergeylen and Michael Smith. But it's not all about wallpapers: in this industrious studio they also create decorated furniture pieces and painted textiles, employing exclusively hand-woven fabrics.

Under Pieri's guidance the workshop collaborates with some of the best interior design studios, working on custom residential projects (for Jeff Koons, Valentino Garavani, the Elkann family, Arnault, Moratti), as well as decorating yachts and hotels (The Lanesborough in London, Cipriani in Venice), restaurants, showrooms (Bulgari, Profumeria di Santa Maria Novella), thus promoting high artistic craftsmanship all around the world. Sandro Pieri's expertise is also sought after by cultural institutions with which he established interesting collaborations, such as the Castle of Manta and Castle of Cicognola, Milan's Museo del Novecento and Rimini's Modern Art Museum, just to name a few. Always open to new projects, under his direction the Design Lab took part in many exhibitions and events, such as “Artigianato e Palazzo” in Florence, “Doppia Firma” in Milan, and most recently “Homo Faber”, in Venice, the prominent biennale dedicated to top international artistic craftsmanship.
