Lorenzo Villoresi
Lorenzo Villoresi was born in Florence in 1956 and graduated in ancient philosophy and biblical philology.
Starting in 1981 and in the years following his graduation, he frequently travelled to Asia for research, where he collected spices, aromatic materials and essences which he then brought back to Italy. In 1990 he opened the Perfumery house that bares his name: initially, his activity as a perfumer focused on creating personal fragrances, a sort of haute-couture of perfume, which still characterizes his work today and rapidly made him well-known in Italy and abroad. From 1996 to 1999 he curated the line “Il Mondo del Profumo” (The world of Perfumes) for the publisher RCS Libri & Grandi Opere. From then on, he held countless lectures on the theme of modern fragrance-making and its relationship with ancient cultures. He was also a consultant for Pitti Immagine Fragranze, the first world expo dedicated to artistic perfumery maisons. In 2006 he won the prestigious international award Prix François Coty, in Paris, which is the most important recognition a perfumer can achieve during his artistic career.
A few years later, again in Paris, he was a finalist for the prize Talents du Luxe et de la Création, and in 2015, in Wien, he was awarded the Flair de Parfum prize. In December 2015 the first Lorenzo Villoresi boutique was opened in Via dei Bardi, inside the Maison’s headquarters, where in 2019 they also inaugurated the Villoresi Museum, the first perfume museum in the world to date, where people can discover the character and fragrance of a wide variety of ingredients and aromatic materials thanks to the Osmorama, an actual “Library of fragrances”, and the Aroma Garden, a collection of rare aromatic plants set inside the palace’s courtyard and on its panoramic terrace overlooking the Arno river and the city.
